The news this week just about summed up the mystery of dieting. Feb. issue of the New England Journal of medicine published a study of different diets to see witch one would work the best for weight lose.

When most people what to lose weight they have to pick what fad diet plan to do this time. High protein, low carb or high carb with little protein with every thing in between.

Basically with the study they just completed  said you just have to eat less calories to lose weight. It did not really matter what diet plan you followed.

Any diet that is low in calories and saturated fat and high in fiber will work.

The 4 diets used in the study were as follows…

Low-fat, average-protein– diet made up of 20 percent fat, 15 percent protein, 65 percent carbohydrates.

Low-fat, high-protein– diet of 20 percent fat, 25 percent protein, 55 percent carbohydrates.

High-fat, average-protein– plan containing 40 percent fat, 15 percent protein, 45 percent carbohydrates.

High-fat, high-protein– diet of 40 percent fat, 25 percent protein,  35 percent carbohydrates.

According to the study physical activity  was set at about 90 minutes a week .

Some will say the study is not really conclusive that one diet is no better than the other. The big message here is that in order to lose weight you can not get away with eating the same amount of calories that you did before losing weight. You might jump up the amount of exercise that you do, but you still need to cut some calories to lose the weight.
