You must eat at least five and nine servings of fruits and vegetables each and every day according to the new food guidelines issued by the United States government. It is not that difficult to accommodate that much fruit and vegetables in your daily diet. Firstly the vegetables and fruits are not that expensive to scatter your budget if you consume them daily. Secondly, there are huge amount of fresh fruits and vegetables available in the grocery stores. These fruits and vegetables are rich in nutrient than any other foods in the supermarket.

According to the recommendation by the US government you need to eat around two cups of fruit and two and a half cups of vegetables every day that is an easy task to accomplish. You can take an advantage of the variety of fruits and vegetables available in the market to supplement your daily needs. Eating variety of fruits and vegetables eliminate the boredom that may occur due to repetition of fruits and vegetables. You may pick fruits and vegetables such that it has all the colors of a rainbow.

You must choose a variety of different colors of fruits and vegetables. Choosing a variety of colors would let you get all the vitamins and minerals you need each and every day as different color fruits and vegetables have different types of nutrients. You may incorporate different recipes everyday to achieve the target of five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables. It would also provide you an opportunity to taste several new dishes. There may be many fruits about which you never knew, try out those fruits and explore their nutrients.

Most of the people have a myth in their mind that if they consume vitamin supplement then they do not require five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables every day but this is not true. Still there are many micronutrients that are not identified by science and cannot be synthesized in vitamin pills, but all these micronutrients are present in real fruits and vegetables. Therefore you must eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to stay healthy and don’t depend on the pills to supplement your diet.

If you compare the prices of vitamin pills with fruits and vegetables, you would find that the fruits and vegetables are much more inexpensive than the pills and are more nutritious. Moreover these pills may harm your body whereas the fruits and vegetables will never harm you.

I would always suggest you to eat five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables every day and stay healthy all your life. You may incorporate fruits and vegetables in your snacks and garnishes to add up to the nutrient value in your diet.
