As we go through life we have a tendency to keep our eating habits from our younger years. But we start to move less due to being not in as good as shape as we once were, and also having more responsibility and less time for our selves.
As we get older our metabolism slows down and we loose muscle mass from not being as active as we once were. We no longer burn the amount of calories we used to. So if we are still eating a lot of calories, we will be storing the unburnt calories as fat.
So what can we do to keep this from happening? Or what can we do to fix what has happened to us?
First thing to do is that we must eat less food. And we should really be choosier of what we put in our mouths. This will have us putting less calories in our bodies. Remember you have to eat less calories, even if you only put healthy food in your mouth.
Nuts are very healthy for you, but they are loaded with a lot of calories. So eat them sparingly. Over eat this and you will gain weight.
Second you can start to work out to burn more calories. Aerobic type exercises, like running, fast walking or any movement that will raise your heart rate will get your metabolism running faster. Weight training will build up your muscle mass. You will want to train your main muscle groups like your legs, stomach, chest, back and arms. By building more muscle, you will burn more calories even at rest.
Exercising both aerobic and weight training will give you the best of all worlds. But you can weight train to really change the way your body will look. Weight machines are good to start out with. They give more support and make you only have to control the weight in the axis of the machine movement. But once you have the hang of it and know how to lift with out injury, you should use free weights. They make you use more muscle groups per exercise and give a better workout. When lifting always move the weight slowly up and down for the full benefit and also to do the exercise safely.
Before starting any exercise regiment always consult your doctor, and seek out help to get started out right. You do not want to injure your self just starting out, or any time. And always warm up first, and have fun.
