When most people want to lose some weight, they put them selves on some restrictive diet. Not eating many of the type of foods that they like. Usually this kind of diet is very short lived. Or at best you lose the weight and start eating the same way you did before the diet. Before long then you are right back at the weight you started at, and some times even heavier.
Truth of the matter is, you can eat anything you like. But you must eat fewer calories than you burn. If your body burns 2200 calories a day, you must eat less than that to lose any weight.
Now, if you eat only 700 calories a day, you will cause your metabolism to slow down. This means that then you will have to eat less to lose any more weight. General information puts a daily calorie intake to loose weight at 1200 to 1500. Now everyone is different. If you have a large body you will be able to eat 1500 or more calories a day and still loose weight. But if you are on the small side or have a slow metabolism you will have to eat less.
Keep a daily food log to find out what you eat before you start cutting back on your calories. Most people will be shocked at the amount of calories that they eat daily. Once you see you will know where to start. Keeping a food log will also let you know if you really want to eat that extra cookie or not. Food logs by them selves will keep you aware of the food that you eat. This helps to stop binge eating.
Yes you can loose weight eating anything you wish. But, you will be only as healthy as the food that you put in your body. Only eat sugar laden and empty calorie foods and your health will suffer for it. Eat healthy, fruits, vegetables and lean meats with fish, and you will be healthier for it.
Exercise, no you do not have to exercise to loose weight. But as many studies have shown, if you do, you will be better for it. Exercise will speed up you metabolism and boost your health. You only need to go for a brisk walk for about 30 minutes a day to benefit. You can strength train to enhance this even more. But you do not have to become a body builder either.
After you get to the weight that you desire, start adding some calories. Once you find your calorie intake, staying at your weight will be easy.
As we get older we have to eat less. Our bodies slow down so we can no longer eat as we did when we were younger. So keep an eye on your weight and adjust as needed and you will always be at the weight you like.

Yes I think what you say here is true but, the better choice of food you eat the faster you will lose your weight. The more vegetables over any other would be the best choice I think. Remember to eat the different kinds to get your protein. Just my thoughts on this.
