Building a Healthy Body Day 53

by Doug M

Yes I am back. I took the last 11 days off of my quest to build a healthy body. I got really frustrated with working out and watching what I was eating and only going down to 178 pounds at my lowest in 42 days. This is only 11 pounds off of my heaviest of 179 pounds.

I sat back and gave all of this a lot of thought first thinking if it is really worth it. But when I thought though of a couple of things, I did all ready lose 11 pounds and I am getting stronger. Plus I do see some difference in my body shape.

I think that maybe I was getting impatient with the process of losing my weight and wanted to see faster progress. Back about 10 years ago as I had mentioned before, I went on a high protein diet. I literally lost 1 pound a day. I did this with no to very little exercise. This was I am sure not the healthiest way to lose weight. I ate less then 30 grams of carbohydrates a day.

I lived on boiled or roasted chicken, grilled hamburger and canned tuna. I would have small amounts of cheese and nuts and eat 1 small apple a day. I should have eaten more low carbohydrate vegetables with what I was eating then.

I do not want to just say the hell with the eating changes and working out. The reason is every time I go out anywhere, I see plenty of examples of what I do not want to end up looking like, totally obese and out of shape. I also do not want to end up spending my last years alive sickly and in misery. As the old saying goes, I would rather wear out than rust out.

I am going to start back at my life change in my eating habits. I will also continue to work out with lifting weights and walking on the treadmill. I have too much self-pride for my self and do not want to end up as so many people are today.

I am going to start eating high protein and few carbohydrates three days and then eat a high carbohydrate one-day cycles. I will do this till I get down to the weight that I am comfortable with. That will be around 145 pounds give or take some. After that I will settle down into a rounded out diet of protein and carbohydrates daily. I am not going to lift weights trying to look like a cut body builder, but to get some shape and strength. I will have to always workout, just to keep my body healthy. But I wont kill myself with it either. Moderation is key to all I believe.

The last 11 days was spent eating just like I did before I started this quest to change my eating habits. I must say that I do feel a bit sluggish and my weight hit 183 pounds one day. I have and always will have a sweet tooth so to speak. I indulged in all of the kinds of foods that will make you want I do not want to become. Now is the time to get back to the task at hand, building a healthy body. I just needed to get my mind set right and remember that I did not get this way over night, so I will not lose the weight over night either.
By the way today August 8, 2009, I weighed 180 & ½ pounds this morning. My 11-day eating binge did not hurt my weight too bad this time. But I also know if it was aloud to go on, it would have been only a matter of time till the scale hit 190 and beyond.

I will keep posting here to show you the progress and it also keeps me motivated too. It is always good to get family and friends involved in your fitness quests.

Hi,
Glad to see you are back. I have been following your posts. I thought that you have given up. Though it looks like you did have a small set back, you are on track again. It has been my experience that it does take time to get the weight off as you said. Just stay with it man and you will get to your goal weight. When too will you post another picture of yourself? We would like to see the progress had made.
